Beaching around Bali
Hanging out at in a beach club during your holiday is probably one of the best ways to enjoy.
Sharing another article that may help you plan your upcoming trip to Bali! While this paradise island is known for it’s upcoming sprawl of cafes (check my guide to cafes in Seminyak and Canggu), there are also plenty of beach clubs that swept us off our feet. Every one we went to completely encapsulated us, with it’s stunning interiors, beautiful beach fronts, sunset views, good music and delicious food and drinks.

It’s not an exaggeration to say that Cabina Bali is a paradise. From the architecture to the decor and furniture, everything screams California. The retro Palm Springs aesthetic makes every corner of this tropical paradise so photo worthy and had me wondering what it would be like to live in a house like this. The restaurant opens right up to the edge of the pool, which has cute floaties of all shapes and sizes and turquoise sunbeds for the sun lovers to get their tan in. I can not remember how deep the pool was but parents will be happy to know that the thoughtful designers also included a kiddy pool.
What topped it off was the incredibly delicious food served on a floating tray. We also did not shy away from a fix of fresh coconut and their pineapple cocktail, as well as a couple of ice-shaker drinks to beat the heat. The breakfast took a little longer than expected to arrive even though there wasn’t a huge crowd. We’d suggest to go really early in the morning and dedicate a good few hours there. If you’re all about them cacti, pink walls or palm trees, don’t miss out on visiting Cabina!

A beach bar that spells boho, vintage and quirky? La Laguna. The birth of this amazing beach bar was an amalgamation of the owner’s love of horses and Spanish Gypsy heritage (and lots of hard work going into the intense conceptualising and designing). It is rather secluded (all the way north and away from the hustle and bustle of Seminyak) but this means serenity and it was well worth the travelling there. The gardens are heavily ornamented with bohemian shades and motifs all around. A short walk through its gardens and you will find various wooden caravans and a lawn plastered with round vintage cushions. Sit on the boardwalk and take in the chirping birds, water flowing slowly and leaves rustling — it is so therapeutic. The ocean breeze here is also the best near to sunset, and the golden sheen that hits the dark sand? It is beautiful.

Sea breeze. There is no lack of that at La Brisa. Intricately built using reclaimed wood and decorated to bring out the island living and Balinese character, the beach club is truly a work of art. Every corner and decoration is so carefully thought out and well complements the overall nautical yet rustic theme. Almost like stepping into a Pirates of the Caribbean scene!
One thing to note however is that this beach club in particular runs on a minimum spend policy during peak hours. Front row seats on the day beds or tables with an unobstructed view of the sunset would easily set you back by one million rupiahs for four people. The same applies to their gorgeous lounging hammocks. There is no minimum spend for the back areas and second floor. But ask me if it’s worth it? I would say “it depends”, while the view is unbeatable, I find it slightly over priced and the crowds are quite a big deterrence.
Instead, we ordered our food and drinks, sat at the back (without a view) then took a walk along the coast and soak in the evening glow. We even tried our hands at flying a drone and took some amazing pictures. (If you’re interested, I shared our travel photography hacks here!)

If you’ve been to Keong Saik Road and visited the bar on the rooftop of one of Singapore’s most iconic buildings, this may sound familiar to you. Yes the Potato Head rooftop bar and Potato Head Beach Club belong to the same parent family. Priding themselves as a sustainable company, they are a huge supporter of local communities. From locally sourced seasonal ingredients to engaging local cultural and musical talents, Potato Head certainly deserves its reputation as one of Bali’s most popular beach clubs and definitely one of my favourites too.
I’ve visited this beach club on every single trip I make to Bali and I love it every single time– the vibes, the atmosphere, the food, the music. We stayed at Katamama for two nights, so Potato Head Beach Club was just a stone throw away. It was our go-to spot to catch sunset, right in the heart of a shopping and cafe-haven, Seminyak! James and I decided to hold our team bonding dinner at the Indonesian restaurant there and the food was so good it left us craving for more.
Take a dip in their infinity pool during the golden hour and grab a drink at their swim-up bar. If you don’t fancy a swim, you may also grab a seat by the bar counter or lounge on the rattan couches (Note: these chic sun beds have to be hired). I was so engrossed in catching the sunset that I didn’t pay much attention to our drinks but James can attest that they really packed an alcoholic punch without overwhelming you.

Uluwatu has one of the most spectacular coasts in Bali. And while it may not be exactly beside the beach, this stunning tropical oasis sits atop a cliff and offers the most breathtaking views of the Uluwatu coast. (Not to worry, the beach is still directly accessible via a long flight of stairs if you wish to take a stroll along the shoreline.) Ulu Cliffhouse was intricately designed to incorporate luscious green and natural wood elements to contrast the blue panoramic view offered.
The club features a 25 metre infinity pool with loungers all around, which reminded us of Waikiki Beach. Think the perfect lounging spot on a lazy afternoon or after a morning swim for a glass or two! Your every desire catered for, other interesting facilities include a music recording studio (say what?), onsite spa and an art space. We hear that many superstars love dropping by the recording studio, but don’t quote me on that. Did I also mention their in-house surfboard shaper? Surfing the Balinese waves in style, guaranteed!
World-class food and beverage options are served up at its open-air restaurant and cliff side rock bar. The menu presents Chef Diego Munoz’s take on Bali’s classic favourites, a fresh angle from the usual beach club offerings.
At 4pm daily, guests can head down and treat their ears to the star-studded DJ lineup, all while indulging in the sunset vista. If you have not had a getaway in ages, Ulu Cliffhouse is a great place to recharge and indulge in wanderlust.
Looking at these pictures makes me miss Bali, away from most of my calls, texts and emails and just basking in the sun everyday or eating to my hearts’ content. With that said, James and I have a few other travel plans in store and we can’t wait to share these with you. Bear with me while I relish in all the goodness of Bali in the meantime.
